Wildcat Creek with water flowing through riparian corridor

Riparian

A riparian habitat is the transition zone between land and a river or stream, characterized by unique vegetation, high soil moisture, and a high water table.  The East Bay has lost more than 95% of its riparian areas. What remains is truly precious. Water is essential to ecosystem health, and wet areas can act as climate change refugia (Morelli et al. 2017). Waterways with shady, cool riparian vegetation are essential for fish and other wildlife and provide critical movement corridors.
